While some students were catching up on sleep and spending time with their family, the students of the Cass High School Interact Club were offering a helping hand for Thanksgiving at the Cartersville Civic Center on Saturday, November 17, 2017.

Each year on the Saturday before Thanksgiving the Cartersville Civic Center works together with other organizations to bring Thanksgiving to those who may not have one otherwise. While the event is aimed at helping the less fortunate, the Civic Center said, “all are welcome.” The Center opened at 11 o’clock in the morning and started seating people. The participants were then served lunch before moving on to the other services that were provided. After eating, the people were brought to a room full of donated clothing and toys. The participants could choose the clothes and the toys that they wanted and needed. They were also provided with a health screening and haircuts before the Center closed at four o’clock.

While it takes many people coming together to accomplish this feast, this year, the Interact Club played a huge part in helping the event go through without any issues. The Interact Club at Cass that is all about getting involved in the community. They saw helping at the Cartersville Civic Center as an excellent way to interact with the community. Mrs. Fowler, one of the sponsors of the Interact Club, said, “The students here that volunteered oversaw sorting clothes, so they helped hang up clothes and organize clothes into different sections like woman’s, men’s, and children’s. They also helped with the toys and sorting them.”

A student that attended, Grant Morris said, “It was a really cool experience. We came out here and we made a difference. We could really see people appreciating what was happening, and it’s cool to see that you can make a difference.”

Every year the Cartersville Civic Center hosts a plethora of events aimed at helping the community. The center was built to hold more than “700 people”, and they also have an in-home “kitchen… available for an additional fee.” Says the Civic Center’s website. One of their biggest events is the Thanksgiving dinner that they offer every year.

Overall what is important is that the Cass High School Interact Club could truly go out and make a profound difference in the lives of so many this holiday season.
