The Values of Platonic Love

The+Values+of+Platonic+Love

Love is a deep emotion that you feel for another person. This emotion is felt for people like your significant others, family, and friends. Love is an important emotion and is crucial to many aspects of relationships people create throughout their lives. There are multiple types of love, and they can look different within certain relations. Platonic love is a type of love that is simply just a friendship or non-romantic bond. Friendship is valuable and we should learn to understand just how valuable this type of relationship is. All types of love are prominent, but there is something special about the bonds of people in a friendship.

The majority of people have probably experienced a friendship at one point in their lives. Friends are the ones who can help us build emotional connections and support us through life in a different way than our families and significant others could. We can share our vulnerabilities with friends without judgment and be free from societal pressure. Within a friendship, people can find a new sense of security and protection. Friendship is built on shared experiences and a deep understanding of one another.

As a result of friends having a better understanding of each other, it makes it easier for friends to be there for you when it comes to harder situations. “Every time I’m going through a hard time, they’re always there for me,” Aryanna Waston, a Cass High School Sophomore, stated about her friends. It is nice to have a lot of people there for you when you have to deal with tough times. Platonic relationships provide a safe spot for people to open up. These relations offer unwavering support, a genuine connection, and a space of joy.

Platonic love is not something commonly celebrated or acknowledged in today’s world. The only type of love commonly celebrated is romantic love through holidays such as Valentine’s Day. Most of the time on these holidays you’ll see couples giving each other gifts, hanging out, and being affectionate. “Love can be a lot of things so it can be for way more than just romantic love,” Herfurth claimed. The holiday seems to have been in the early days for more than just romantic love. Children in elementary school do activities where you give everyone a Valentine’s from a mailbox or a basket, there are also lots of friends who share gifts on Valentine’s Day.

Friends are supportive and helpful, but your significant other and family can also provide you with special connection and support because of this, platonic love can be overlooked. “Some people overlook platonic love and I feel like that is, you know, not a good thing to just overlook,” Cass High School student Ceanna Herfurth explained. A friendship can be a lifelong bond. It can keep someone by people’s side through the difficulties and delights of life. Platonic love can bring about a unique intimacy that differs from other relations. Platonic love that shouldn’t be foreseen and overshadowed by other love.

On the contrary, all forms of love should be valued and respected, including platonic love. Herfurth expressed, “I don’t really think certain forms of love should be higher than others. I feel like they should be viewed as equal,” Platonic love should not be overlooked just because a relationship is purely based on friendship. All love should be put on the same level, and everyone needs a little love and support throughout their lives.

In conclusion, Platonic love is important and should be seen as a valuable type of love. It shouldn’t be underrated as it is just as significant as every other type of love. Friendship is a good thing to have and to hold onto throughout life. Platonic love is a treasure and should not be taken for granted.
