On February 22, the Cass High Girls Basketball team competed in an intense match against St. Pius X Catholic School in the first round of the Class 5A State Tournament. The Colonels’ season ended falling 3-points short in a 52-55 game. Despite the heartbreaking loss, the Colonels finished the season with an impressive 23-6 record and took the second seed in the region.

The Lady Colonels were trailing most of the night and even found themselves in a 19 point deficit in the 3rd quarter. It looked like the game was slipping out of their hands, but the Colonels rallied to put up a massive effort to bring the game back.

“Even though we were down coming into the fourth quarter we fought till the end,” Junior Mikaela Jackson. “Though it was a loss, it was a great way to end the season.”

Jackson pitched in with 9 points that night along with Claire Davis, Justice Bennett, and Miya Winston. Maya Ford and Haley Johnson both had 6 points and Keara McDaniel finished the night with 4.

Jackson is the only upcoming senior returning next year and when asked how she felt about next season, she said, “I’m nervous because I’ll be the only senior. I’m glad I’ve been playing with these girls for so long because they really do feel like family now, but I’m looking forward to senior night.”
