The 2022 World Cup is just around the corner and so many people are excited to see their countries compete for the title. The World Cup this year is taking place in Qatar (a country in the middle east). The World Cup is such a big deal because it only takes place every 4 years and every single time a different country hosts the event. David McQueen stated, “I’m not even a soccer fan but even I know how big of a deal the World Cup is.”. You might ask yourself, why do they only do it every 4 years? Well, this is because they have to give the hosting country plenty of time to plan for the event. They sometimes even need to build entirely new stadiums to account for all the people that are going to come from around the world and watch.

The first World Cup took place almost a century ago with only 13 different countries competing at the time. The first team to be crowned the champions of the world was Uruguay beating Argentina in the finals 4-2, but now there are 32 countries competing for the title making it a lot more difficult to win. Since then, there have been 21 other world cup competitions (not including this one coming up). The team with the most World Cups won as of now is Brazil with a total of 5 World Cups.

This might be the last time we see some of the best players in the world play in the World Cup, like Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Robert Lewandowski, Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior (Neymar Jr.), and several other players. When asked how he felt about maybe seeing some of the best players in the world for the last time, Juan Pajarito replied, “It’s sad to think that this might be the last time I get to see Messi compete in the World Cup. I still remember back in 2014 when Argentina was so close to winning the World Cup, but they sadly lost to Germany. I really thought Messi was about to win his very first World Cup. This would have defined him as the best in the world.”

When asked what he would like to see this World Cup final, Edwin Veliz said, “I would love to see Portugal and Argentina compete in the World Cup final. It would be the clash of the goats. It would finally end the debate of who’s the better player, either Messi or Ronaldo. It would make everyone’s dreams come true. I’m a huge Ronaldo fan myself but regardless of the outcome I would be happy just seeing them play in the final.”
