Fall break is a time to relax. Whether it’s going to the beach, the mountains, or simply just taking the time to rest, there is plenty of time for relaxation. However, not everybody travels during this free time. It is very common to stay home and recover from the weeks of school. When staying home, someone could enjoy things like spending time with friends, preparing for the fall season, or doing fall activities. Meanwhile, people who travel to the beach can live out and soak up their last few days of the summer. Additionally, people traveling to the mountains can get a jump start in winter. Overall, there are tons of ways to enjoy fall break.
However, he would rather go to the mountains. He says, “There are less people, I do not like people.” When asked if he would make modifications to fall break, he said he would extend it to two weeks and move it to the week of Halloween. Nottingham also believes where you live affects where you might choose to vacation. He says, “If you live in Florida, you’d want to go to the mountains instead of the beach. But if you live up North, you’d probably want to go to the beach.” The number of places that are traveled to over break is limitless.
Sophomore Ethan Nottingham says that his trip to Alabama this fall break was fun. Sophomore Gavin Heath said he had a relaxing time in Destin. Sophomore Francisco Castaneda enjoyed his time in Mexico. Studies show that New York is the most common place to travel during fall break. Due to its artistic and creative essence, it attracts tons of tourists. Although Cass High has their fall break during the first week of October, it is more typical to have it ranging from mid-October to early November. Studies recommend getting organized and doing fall activities while staying home for break. Heath says that one of his friends went to the mountains, but he believes that most people traveled to the beach. Junior Layla Allgood spent one of her days on break at a haunted trail. Sophomore Makenna Martin spent her time with her family and friends while staying home. Some sports teams for Cass High still attended practice and played in games.
The fall break at Cass High School this year was altered due to Hurricane Helene. This resulted in an eleven-day break. Regardless of the hurricane, the Cass Colonels were still able to experience some of their extracurriculars. Cass was able to have the football game and homecoming as scheduled, but the homecoming court was delayed. The homecoming parade and the homecoming pep rally got moved to the day of the final home football game. Students at Cass High enjoyed the extra free time, even if Hurricane Helene passed through.
Overall, there are countless ways to spend time over fall break. Between staying home and indulging in fall activities or traveling for a change of scenery. The people who traveled enjoyed an irregular schedule. The people who stayed home were able to obtain needed rest. Fall break is an amazing opportunity for a mental reset no matter how someone spends it.
