Fast Food Favorites That Were Flayed Off the Menu

Fast+Food+Favorites+That+Were+Flayed+Off+the+Menu

It’s been a year since Taco Bell discontinued the infamous Mexican Pizza, a delicious menu item composed of 2 Crispy flour shells layered with beans, seasoned beef, tomatoes and cheese, and the popular fast-food chain has yet to see the end of it. American rapper, singer-songwriter Doja Cat recently tweeted “I want my f@#$%! Mexican pizza back,” and said “@tacobell why u quiet”. Taco Bell lovers all around the world were all crushed by their favorite menu item’s disappearance, but this franchise isn’t afraid to drop fan favorites—and neither are the other fast food empires evidently.

Here are the top 5 times fast foodie’s favorite items left the menu:

McDonald’s Szechuan Sauce

In 1998, McDonald’s dropped the Szechuan dipping sauce, a sweet and tangy sauce for nuggets, in promotion of the movie Mulan. To the disappointment of fast foodies, the sauce quickly disappeared off menus. However, there was an uproar regarding the sauce almost two decades later because of the adult animation series Rick and Morty, which called out the franchise for discontinuing the sauce in an episode. McDonald’s soon put the sauce back in stores after Rick and Morty fans begged for the Szechuan Sauce’s return, of course, this return was also short-lived.

McDonald’s McRib

Throughout the years, McDonald’s has launched the McRib and quickly taken it off its menus several times—teasing the public. The barbeque sandwich was filled with delicious pork and beautifully drenched in BBQ sauce, onions, and pickles. BBQ fanatics are awaiting the McRib’s return.

Taco Bell’s Quesarito

Last year, Taco Bell discontinued a long line of menu items, stating that “with safety top of mind, [they] want to ensure an easy and fast ordering experience for [their] guests and team members”. The Quesarito, a grilled beef burrito filled with rice, sour cream, and chipotle sauce and surrounded by creamy nacho cheese, was sadly among those struck off the list. Taco Bell fans have not stopped asking for their prized burrito, and Taco Bell decided to make the Quesarito available, but only for online orders.

Popeyes Cajun Rice

Earlier this year, Popeyes made an announcement on Twitter stating that they would no longer be carrying Cajun Rice—a Louisiana-style rice dish packed with beef and chicken gizzards—declaring that they “still have a bunch of delicious sides to offer”. Well, Popeyes, we want Cajun Rice. It’s unclear if this menu item might return to the stores, but with hope and diligent begging, there is always a possibility.

Wendy’s Spicy Chicken Nuggets

In 2017, Wendy’s made the horrible decision of discontinuing their beloved spicy chicken nuggets. What followed was two years of constant pleading from the Twitter Nation for Wendy’s to finally give in. Wendy’s responded in a tweet,  claiming that if the public could get their Twitter post to 2 million likes, they’d give us back our nuggets. Of course, it didn’t take the people to flood the posts with likes and send the nuggets back to their rightful home—our bellies.

Hopefully, the Mexican Pizza has the same fate as Wendy’s Spicy Nuggets. If people continue on the path of badgering the franchise, then it may be only a matter of time!
