During an interview before playing Serena Williams, Osaka was asked a question by a reporter and responded with “I have this mentality that people don’t remember the runners-up. You might, but the winner’s name is the one that is engraved.” Naomi Osaka went on to face No.10 Serena Williams and beat her 6-3, 6-4 in two straight sets. Following her win against Serena Williams, Naomi Osaka was interviewed by ESPN reporter Jim Courier and stated, “Honestly for me, I don’t know, it’s just always an honor to play her and I just didn’t want to go out, like, really bad, so I just wanted to try my best.” Osaka then went on to the Women’s Singles Australian Open Finals on Saturday, February 20, where she faced No.20, Jennifer Brady. Osaka went on to win the Australian Open Finals 6-4, 6-3 in straight sets. Along with winning the Australian Open Trophy, Osaka also received 2.1 million dollars. “Osaka, 23, now has four Grand Slam titles to her name, adding to the 2018 and 2020 U.S. Opens, plus her win in Australia in 2019.” says The Wall Street Journal.
