Colonels Kick the Door In
On August 10, 2018, the Cass High Colonels punted the Pepperell Dragons into submission during their first scrimmage of the year. After draggin’ the Dragons, Cass High is in high spirits for the upcoming season. The Colonels stole the night in a 6-3 combative kicking match that positively put the “foot” in football.
A player to watch is our starting kicker, Kaleb Speights, who kicked the first points the team would acquire this season in the second quarter. Then, in the third quarter, Speights kicked the crucial field goal that put the Colonels over the top, thereby, raising the spirits of this year’s players.
“Everybody is optimistic about the season, especially coming off of last season. We feel like we’ve changed the culture and the way that things are; we’re excited to get to playing real games,” said the starting quarterback, Rett Moore when asked about the locker room morale.
When asked about the soon approaching game against Adairsville High School, the head coach, Coach Hughes, stated, “We’re excited about it. Anytime you can play somebody right down the road, the kids get excited about it. They all played with each other in Rec and whatnot, so it’ll be a big crowd, and we’ll be excited.”
Cass had a rough season last year, but the players and the coaches seem eager to make this year one to remember. All in all, it looks like the Colonels are going into this new season with a vigor that they’ll use to domesticate the Adairsville Tigers on Friday, August the 24th.
