Beta Makes It to Nationals!
In late January, the Cass High Beta Club attended the Beta Club Convention held in Savannah, Georgia. There were a series of competitions, including variations of academics, art, public speaking, etc. According to casshigh.bartow.k12.ga.us, the club received a G.O.L.D. Key award for “increasing the number of students who attended the competition for this academic year.” Cass High’s Beta Club has been continuously growing and they hope to expand for years to come.
After the convention, Principal Mike Nelson received an email from Bob Bright, the CEO of The National Beta Club, containing a congratulatory letter that invited some students to attend the national competition held this coming June in Savannah, Georgia. Many of our star students competed and placed in various events. Kevin Polo placed third in the state for Spanish. Jaden Musacchio, Chloe Carpenter, and Jessica Bhika all placed third in the competition for Fresh Look at Beta, which is a competition in which students display their knowledge of the Beta organization and its principles. These students will all have the honor of competing in differing areas alongside people throughout the nation in June later this year.
Beta Club is a nonprofit organization meant “to promote the ideals of academic achievement, character, service, and leadership among elementary and secondary school students,” according to betaclub.org. They have certain requirements to join the club, such as excellent grades and outgoing character traits. Beta Club is for people in grades fourth through twelfth that show outstanding achievement, leadership, character, and service. Although they currently have over five-hundred-thousand active members, their official website, betaclub.org, states that Beta Club is “not for everyone, just those who are like to become leaders.”
Madison Goering, a junior who has been an active member of Cass High’s Beta group for three years, competed in the group talent portion for singing. “I love the environment BetaCon provides, and I was looking forward to performing and meeting new people,” she stated. “It’s such a great opportunity to make new friends and meet people that have similar interests and talents,” Madison later mentioned that she met some of her best friends through this convention. She hopes to attend this convention her senior year as well.
This opportunity is very exciting, and they have worked very hard to make it to the national level. If you see them in the halls, be sure to congratulate them for their honorary accomplishment!
