New Route for Rome?
Georgia Department of Transportation has renewed a state proposal to connect US 411 to interstate 75 in Bartow County. This route will be called the Rome-Cartersville Development Corridor (RCDC) and it will help improve movement for residents and commuters throughout Floyd and Bartow counties.
Reasons for why this new route is in play (according to the GDOT webpage) are:
- Improve access and connection to support economic growth
- Improve truck route
- Improve local road access
- Improve I-75 connection
The plan for this corridor is to help access for business growth as well as help road congestion on the highway. According to the Rome News-Tribune, ” The road is aimed at linking Floyd County with Interstate 75 and relieving congestion on Bartow County surface streets. Georgia Department of Transportation engineers have narrowed the potential routes to two alignments. Both alignments would hit I-75 near the Anheuser Busch plant, with one access point close to Cass-White Road and the other a little farther to the south — near Tellus Science Museum.”
