Lady Colonels Volleyball Starts the Season Off with a Win

In the opening games of their season, the Cass High Varsity Girls Volleyball team dominated the court.

The night began with a fierce game between Cass and the North Murray High School Mountaineers. With strong serves from seniors Kyler Trouten and Keila Sanchez, the Colonels quickly pulled ahead. Cass crushed the Mountaineers and closed out their first set of the year with a score of 25-12. The following set North Murray brought the heat, but the Colonels were still able to take them down, ending with a score of 28-26.

Senior Macy Wright, who has been a member of the team since her eighth-grade year, said, “It felt great to start the season with a win. We’ve been working really hard, and I see this being an awesome season.”

Later Tuesday night, the Colonels also faced off with the Pepperell Dragons, who proved to present much more of a challenge for Cass, and even took the lead at one point during the first set. Eventually, however, the Colonels pulled out a win with a great final hit from Keegan Krause, a sophomore who recently moved here from Texas. The first set against Pepperell resulted in a score of 26-24. The second set also put the Lady Colonels on top after a tight race for the final point. The set ended 25-23, and the Colonel Volleyball team rejoiced in loud cheers and high fives.

“I feel like we played really well,” said Emily Tracy, a senior on the team. Tracy has also been playing since her eighth-grade year, so this will be her fifth year on the court. She added, “We’ve been together so long and know each other so well, I feel like it helps us work more as a team. I think we’ll go really far this season!”

The Cass Volleyball team plays again on Tuesday, August 22. The team hopes to keep up their winning streak and go all the way to state.
